Bucknell Signs Aaron Roussell to Contract Extension

Head coach Aaron Roussell has guided the Bucknell women’s basketball team to an improved record in each of his three seasons with the Bison, including three straight 15-plus win seasons and back-to-back years with a home game in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. On Monday, director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced that Roussell has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

“The Bison women’s basketball program has benefitted significantly from Aaron Roussell’s leadership since his arrival at Bucknell,” Hardt said. “Aaron has tremendous energy and passion. It is very evident that his leadership has positively impacted the student-athletes. Under his leadership and direction, the program is capable of contending for championships year in and year out, while also maintaining its success in the classroom and involvement in the community. I am happy to continue our support for Aaron and his staff as they successfully lead the program into the future.”

“My family and I are incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to remain at Bucknell long-term,” said Roussell. “This is a special place with incredible people. I would like to thank our coaching staff and student-athletes, who have created a great culture and made this such a perfect place to be. I would also like to thank the administration at Bucknell — from President Bravman to John Hardt, Tim Pavlechko and Maisha Kelly — the support we have here is tremendous.”

Bucknell returns four starters from last year’s team that went 18-12, the program’s best record since the 2006-07 season. Included in that group are two players who have won major awards in the conference. Forward Claire DeBoer was the Patriot League Rookie of the Year two seasons ago, while guard Jacquie Klotz received the award last year.

The Bison have fared well academically over the past three seasons. Three players have been voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, and the team has earned a total of 23 spots on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Audrey Dotson was selected to the Academic All-District Team by CoSIDA and was tabbed as one of 30 candidates nationally for the Senior CLASS Award during her final season.

Roussell has a 49-42 record in his three seasons at Bucknell, bringing his career ledger to 210-92. Prior to his arrival in Lewisburg, he fashioned a 161-50 record in eight seasons as head coach at the University of Chicago.
