Bryn Mawr names interim head coach

Rebecca Tyler has been named Bryn Mawr College’s interim head basketball coach announced Athletic Director Kathy Tierney Wednesday afternoon.

"I am honored to accept the interim head women’s basketball coach position for Bryn Mawr College and look forward to getting to know the players and to having a competitive season," stated Tyler. "I want to give these young women an exceptional intercollegiate athletic experience and challenge them not only on the hardwood but to excel in the classroom as well. I look forward to beginning my recruiting trail and bringing the best possible prospects to Bryn Mawr College."

Tyler comes to Bryn Mawr after spending the last three seasons as the assistant coach at her alma mater, Widener University. While with the Pride, she served as the academic and recruiting coordinator, as well as the defensive coordinator for the 2012-13 season.

During her tenure at Widener, Tyler mentored the 2012 Middle-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Player of the Year, three 1st team all-conference selections, two academic All-Americans, WBCA All-American and Philadelphia Inquirer Performer of the Year. Tyler helped lead Widener to a national ranking of 12 from D3hoops.com, the 2012-13 NCAA Elite 8 and runner-up in the 2011-12 MAC Championships.

Tyler has coached at numerous basketball camps including the Bob Koch Point Guard Academy and the YMCA of the Main Line sports camps.

Tyler graduated from Widener in 2010 with a degree in business management with a concentration in sports. As a student-athlete, Tyler played from 2006-2010 and was a two-time team captain. In 2009 she helped lead Widener to the MAC championship and an NCAA appearance. She was named 2nd team All-Conference for the 2007-08 season and earned the MAC Sportsmanship Award in 2009.

"I am thrilled to welcome Becky to Bryn Mawr Athletics as our interim head basketball coach," said Tierney. "Her enthusiasm, work ethic and student centered philosophy will be instrumental in creating an outstanding intercollegiate experience for our student athletes."

Tyler replaces Deb McLaughlin ’05 who will remain with team until Nov. 27th to help with the coaching transition. Tyler begins her new post immediately.
