Shane Lynch, formerly the head women’s basketball coach at the College of St. Joseph (Vt.), will join the Brown University women’s basketball staff as the team’s operations coordinator, head coach Sarah Behn announced on Wednesday.
“I’m very excited to have Shane Lynch join our staff as our operations coordinator,” Behn said. “Shane has excellent qualifications for the position. He has served as a head coach at the college level and has worked in operations in collegiate and corporate settings. Shane has a great knowledge and passion for the game of basketball, and I’m grateful to have him on board.”
Prior to joining the Bears, Lynch most recently served as a private basketball coach and tutor from 2013-15, working with clients in the states of Vermont and New York. On the college level, he has served as the head women’s coach at the College of St. Joseph (2011-12), as an assistant coach at Central Maine Community College (2010-11), and as an associate head coach at Vermont Technical College (2007-08).
“I feel honored to be given the opportunity to work at a first-class University in a first-class program for a first-class head coach,” Lynch said. “We have a great group of young women who are extremely bright and exceptionally talented. Great things are coming to College Hill and I am delighted to be a part of it.”
While at St. Joseph, Lynch improved the Lady Saints’ record from 3-27 to 15-15, mentoring multiple all-conference selections. He also served as the director of communications for athletics.
“I have been very lucky to have had amazing coaching mentors who have helped me throughout my career,” Lynch said. “Both Coach John Dyer and Coach Dave Gonyea, at VTC and CMCC respectively, gave me opportunities to learn and grow on their coaching staffs, and I wouldn’t be here if it were not for them.”
Lynch also worked as the director of sports information at CMCC and served as an assistant to the athletic director at VTC. He played three years of varsity basketball at Vermont Technical College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management in 2007.
“I look forward to taking the knowledge I have gained through my hard work and dedication to the sport and expanding on it under Coach Behn,” Lynch said. “I am proud to be a Brown Bear and will work my hardest to contribute to the program.”
