Brian Morehouse Notches 500th Victory at Hope College

The fourth-ranked and unbeaten Hope College Flying Dutch gave head coach Brian Morehouse another milestone victory with a 95-58 win against Saint Mary’s on Senior Day Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse. Morehouse is now 500-76 in 20 seasons as head coach.

“There’s no better place than Hope. There’s no better place that I’d rather do this,” Morehouse told an enthused DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 1,130 during a post-game ceremony honoring him. “I have great players. I get way too much of the credit honestly.”

Morehouse is the 28th Division III women’s basketball coach all-time to reach 500 wins and 18th current one.

Under Coach Morehouse, the Flying Dutch have won 20-or-more games 17 consecutive seasons, claimed 12 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) titles, made 14 trips to the NCAA tournament, including two Final Four appearances and a Division III national championship in 2006.

Morehouse was chosen the 2005-06 Division III national coach of the year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the publication DIII News. The Detroit Free Press included Morehouse among the state’s top sports figures in 2006 and among the candidates for the newspaper’s annual “Michigan’s Best” honor roll. Three times in his career, (2001-02, 2002-03 and 2008-09), he has been voted the Regional Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). He has been named the Michigan Collegiate women’s basketball coach of the year by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan three times in his career (2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12).
