Bradbury Wins #100 at WSU

A 19-3 run to start the second half broke up a one-point contest as the Wright State women’s basketball team went on to a 74-59 decision at Detroit Thursday for head coach Mike Bradbury’s 100th win at WSU.

The Raiders scored the first eight points of the contest, but the Titans hung tough, eventually going up 16-15 on a Haleigh Ristovski three with 10:44 left in the first half. WSU extended the margin back out to seven following a Courtney Boyd jumper, only to see Detroit answer with six straight and trail by just one at the half at 34-33.

Detroit shot 45 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including seven of 15 three-pointers, while Wright State shot 34 percent and was just four of 18 from behind the arc.

Five points from Symone Denham and four by Breanna Stucke started the Raiders on their 19-3 run to begin the second half and WSU maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way, the biggest being 71-50 on two Richelle van der Keijl free throws with 3:41 to play.

WSU shot 41 percent in the second half to finish at 37 percent overall and made 19 of 25 free throws while UDM shot 36 percent to end up at 40 percent for the game, but the Titans missed all seven three-point attempts the final 20 minutes and were just four of seven at the line for the contest.

The win was the 100th at Wright State for fifth-year head coach Mike Bradbury (100-60) and his 150th overall (50-44 in three years at Morehead State). The victory also clinched a home game for the Raiders in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament on Wednesday, March 11.

Wright State (21-7, 10-4 Horizon) closes out the regular season next week with two home games, starting with UIC on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00
