Bowling Green hires assistant

Bowling Green State University women’s basketball head coach Jennifer Roos has announced the addition of Sahar Nusseibeh as an assistant coach on her staff. Nusseibeh, an Ohio native, will begin her duties at BGSU on June 17.

Nusseibeh comes to BGSU after spending the last two seasons at the College of the Holy Cross on the staff of head coach Bill Gibbons. She helped the Crusaders win a total of 37 games over those two seasons, and the team advanced to the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament both years. Among a myriad of duties, Nusseibeh was the team’s post coach and also was the program’s video coordinator.

“I am thrilled to announce that Sahar Nusseibeh will be joining the women’s basketball staff,” said BGSU head coach Jennifer Roos. “She brings with her a number of Ohio connections: playing for North Canton Hoover High School, working as a graduate assistant at the University of Cincinnati, and formerly serving as the recruiter for the Midwest and Ohio for Holy Cross.

“Sahar is extremely motivated and passionate about coaching. She will be an excellent mentor for our student-athletes and an exceptional recruiter. I look forward to having her be a part of the Bowling Green community.”

In 2012-13, Holy Cross finished 18-14 overall. The fourth seed for the league tournament, the Crusaders advanced all the way to the title game before falling to Navy.

The 2011-12 Crusaders had a 19-15 record, upsetting top-seeded American in the PL Tournament’s semifinal round. Holy Cross was invited to the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) and posted a first-round win in that national postseason tournament.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the women’s basketball family at BGSU,” said Nusseibeh “It seems like a very special place filled with wonderful people who work hard every day, have a tremendous amount of pride in their institution, and genuinely care about the well-being of their student-athletes.

“I am also very excited to be working for someone like Coach Roos, who is a proven winner and has played an instrumental role in the tradition of excellence BGSU women’s basketball holds. I have no doubt I will learn and grow under her guidance and mentorship, allowing me to be the best coach I can possibly be.”

Prior to joining the Holy Cross program, Nusseibeh spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Cincinnati. While with the Bearcats, she coordinated video, served as the team’s post coach and was the academic liaison between the players, academics department and coaches.

In addition to her experiences with UC and Holy Cross, Nusseibeh served internships with both the Atlanta Dream (2007) and Washington Mystics (2009) of the WNBA. Additionally, she spent time in Colorado working with USA Basketball, helping prepare the U-19 and World University Games teams that competed in Thailand and Serbia, respectively.

Nusseibeh played four seasons at American University from 2005-09, and was named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in her initial season. She made 116 career appearances with 39 starts, helping the Eagles to the conference regular-season titles in both 2007-08 and ‘08-09.

Off the court, Nusseibeh served as the president of the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her senior season, and was a women’s basketball team representative to that committee throughout her undergraduate career. She also participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” program.

A native of Uniontown, Ohio, Nusseibeh graduated cum laude from AU in 2009, earning her bachelor’s degree in International Relations/International Business. She received her master’s degree in Business Administration from Cincinnati in May of 2011.

“It is a blessing to be back in my home state of Ohio,” said Nusseibeh. “I’m extremely proud of my roots and I’m very excited to be back coaching Midwest basketball; there is nothing like it! I can’t wait to be a part of the Bowling Green community; their support for the school is tremendous and I look forward to helping women’s basketball win many more MAC championships in front of a packed house at the Stroh Center!”

Nusseibeh’s hiring completes Roos’s staff, which also includes assistant coaches Jesse Fleming and Jacey Brooks and director of operations Monique Rosati.
