Beck elevated to Associate Head WBB Coach at Dakota Wesleyan

Dakota Wesleyan University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jason Christensen, along with Athletic Director Jon Hart, today announced the appointment of Celeste Beck, the current assistant women’s basketball coach, to the position of Associate Head Coach.

About Beck’s appointment, Hart stated, “This is such a well-deserved appointment for Coach Beck. I’m extremely happy for her; we’ve been fortunate to have her as an integral part of our program and department. It has been special to watch her grow from a student to an integral part of our staff. Celeste is a rising star.”

Beck has been a part of the women’s basketball coaching staff for nearly seven years. During the 2018-19 season, Beck was handed the reins for a stretch of three road games when head coach Christensen was sidelined due to health reasons. Beck posted all three as victories against Briar Cliff, Mount Marty, and Doane.

Beck spoke about her new position. “I am honored to be able to take on additional roles in the program. I get to work with exceptional student-athletes every day at a university that is special to me. I take great pride in this program, from being a player to a coach. I love what we have accomplished in my last 10 years at Dakota Wesleyan. Additionally, I’d like to thank Athletic Director Jon Hart and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jason Christensen for this opportunity.”

Christensen lauded the appointment of Beck to Associate Head Coach stating, “Since Coach Beck joined the coaching staff, we have had many ‘firsts’ in the program, including our first national championship in the 2017-18 season. Right away, she stepped up and began to have an immediate impact. I believe a lot of our success has come because of the job Celeste has done over the years.”

Christensen continued, “I believe great teams have great success year-in and year-out because of the ability to retain their assistant coaches. Coach Beck is a great example of that and just one of the many reasons why she deserves this position within our program.”
