Barrett named interim head coach at Baruch

The Baruch College Athletic Department today named KellyAnn Barrett as the interim Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team for the 2014-15 season.

Barrett takes over the program from Machli Joseph, who stepped down in order to devote more time in his new position as the Deputy Director of Athletics.

Barrett joined the coaching staff in 2010 after spending four years as a Division II scholarship player on the women’s basketball team at Bentley University in Massachusetts. She graduated in 2010 from Bentley with a degree in accounting.

She played her high school basketball at nationally-recognized Christ the King in Queens.

During the past four years as an assistant coach, she was involved in all facets of the program from recruiting to practice sessions to working closely with team’s low post players.

"I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to be the next head coach at Baruch College," said Barrett. "I have had the privilege of being a part of this program as an assistant the past four years and I am very excited to continue my journey here at Baruch College. Machli has built a program with such a winning tradition. I look forward to continuing that tradition. Machli has been a great mentor and teacher to me these last four years and I am so grateful to have worked with him."

The women’s basketball team is the seven-time defending CUNYAC Champions.

"I am so happy on so many levels to have KellyAnn as our coach," said Director of Athletics Ray Rankis. "She is organized, knowledgeable, has high standards and cares deeply about our student-athletes. I look forward to watching her teams play."
