Arkansas State Hires Rademacher as Assistant Coach

The Arkansas State women’s basketball program has announced the hiring of Autumn Rademacher (Rad-Uh-Maker) as assistant coach for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Rademacher, the 2010 Horizon League Coach of the Year, spent the previous seven seasons as head coach at Detroit University where she compiled 101 victories and helped the Titans reach the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) in 2012 and captured the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) title in 2013.

“Autumn has been very successful as a player, as an assistant coach and as a head coach at the Division I level,” A-State head coach Brian Boyer said. “She is very well respected as a recruiter from her time at both Western Michigan and Wisconsin-Green Bay. Her experience as a head coach will also be very beneficial to our program. She has won all throughout her career and I’m excited to have her as a part of our program and to help us build on our recent success.”

Rademacher is the school’s all-time leader in victories for a women’s basketball coach and had three 20-plus-win seasons during her tenure at Detroit. She had 17 players earn postseason accolades from the Horizon League, including First-Team All-Conference honorees, a Sixth Player of the Year award and All-Newcomer accolades.

The 2012-13 season proved to be a historic one for the Titans and Rademacher. Coming off a WNIT berth the season before, Detroit compiled a 21-13 record to claim back-to-back winning seasons for the first in over a decade. Not only did the Titans post back-to-back winnings season, but they also won 20 games in back-to-back years since the early 1980s. Detroit set a school record with 16 home victories, the second most in the country.

Radamacher guided the Titans to a 20-14 record in 2011-12 and helped her program reach a postseason (WNIT) for the first time since 1997. Detroit set a school record with 14 league victories and played in the Horizon League Title game for the sixth time in school history. She was named the 2012 CollegeSportsMadness.com Horizon League Coach of the Year and helped end Green Bay’s perfect season a 70-58 victory over the school before the conference tournament.

Offensively, Detroit tallied 70 or more points 13 times, including a season-high 90 in a 30-point victory over IPFW. The Titans also broke a 15-year school record in that contest shooting 65.5% (38-of-58) as a team. Detroit outrebounded its opponent in 23 of its 34 games and owned a +4.9 rebounding margin on the season, second in the Horizon League. The Titan defense held an opponent to under 60 points 14 times on the year and under 50 points on five occasions.

“I am extremely thrilled about the opportunity to work for coach Brian Boyer at Arkansas State,” Rademacher said. “He is a proven winner, has an outstanding reputation, and has established himself nationally as one of the best collegiate women’s basketball coaches in the country. The Red Wolves are a Top-50 program where the fan and community support is outstanding, the A-State student-athletes have high rates of success on and off the floor, and the campus is absolutely beautiful. I am incredibly thankful to be a part of the Red Wolves women’s basketball program and feel honored to represent the program.”

Prior to becoming head coach at her alma mater, she was an assistant at Green Bay for four years, helping the squad to four Horizon League regular-season championships and two postseason titles (2005 and 2007). Before joining the Phoenix, Rademacher spent seven years as an assistant coach at Western Michigan, helping the Broncos advance to postseason play four times, including a berth in the 2003 NCAA Tournament following its MAC Tournament title.

Rademacher played for the Titans from 1993-97. She earned MCC First Team honors in 1996 and again in 1997, and was a Second-Team, as well as an All-Newcomer Team honoree as a freshman in 1994. She is the school’s third all-time leading scorer with 1,686 points and ranks in the top-10 in multiple statistical categories after four seasons as a starter at UDM, including fourth in career assists (439) and second in career 3-point field goals (201). Rademacher helped lead the Titans to a Horizon League post-season championship and a berth in the 1997 NCAA Tournament as a senior season.

A native of Traverse City and a Third Team All-State selection at Traverse City High School, Rademacher graduated from the University of Detroit in 1997 with a degree in criminal justice.
