Antwon Harris Added to Longwood Women’s Basketball Staff

Longwood head women’s basketball coach Bill Reinson announced the addition of Antwon Harris to join the squad as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign.

Harris comes to Longwood after spending last season as the head women’s basketball coach at Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill., where he previously served as assistant coach for two seasons before being promoted to head coach.

“Antwon Harris is a very positive, energetic coach,” Reinson said. “His attitude and energy will be a welcomed addition to our staff and his head coaching experience will add another valuable voice to the coaching conversation. Antwon is very well-connected and will be an important part of our recruiting efforts moving forward. His personality will resonate well with our young ladies. I’m excited that he has decided to join the Longwood family.”

As head coach at Highland, Harris oversaw several aspects of the program, leading the program to 14 wins in his first season in a head coach capacity. In addition to his coaching duties, Harris was responsible for coordinating team outings, conducting fundraisers and gaining sponsorships. He created and organized community outreach events, as well as volunteer opportunities for his team.

“I’m extremely honored and grateful to be the newest member of the Longwood family,” Harris said. “I’m ready to bring my high energy and effort with a commitment to excellence and championships to Longwood.”

Serving as an assistant for two seasons, Harris assisted the head coach in day-to-day operation, as well as preparing scouting reports and game plans for the team. While at Highland, his squad posted a 90-percent graduation rate. He also broke down game film on opponents and assisted with coordination of team travel.

Harris graduated in 2008 from Winthrop University with a bachelor of arts degree in Sociology, as he was a two-year letterwinner for the Eagles men’s basketball team and won more than 100 games as a collegiate player at Highland Community College and Winthrop. He played in more than 60 games in two seasons under current Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall, helping the Eagles to back-to-back Big South championships and automatic berths into the NCAA Tournament. Outside of basketball, Harris spent time giving back to the Rock Hill community, as he volunteered with the local Habitat for Humanity.

Prior to his time at Winthrop, Harris played for two seasons at Highland Community College where he was a first team All-American in 2006 when he helped lead HCC to a 34-2 record and a third-place finish in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

Following his collegiate career, Harris started his own basketball training company with CoachUp while playing semi-pro basketball where he served as a private basketball coach.
