Alecia Wilson Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Pacific University

Pacific University Director of Athletics Ken Schumann has announced the hiring of Alecia Wilson as the new head coach of the Pacific women’s basketball program.

“I am very pleased to welcome Alecia Wilson to Pacific as the new head coach of our women’s basketball program.”

Wilson has spent the last four years as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Whitworth University. With the Pirates, she has been involved in multiple aspects of the program including recruiting, management of the offense, film and scouting as well as strength and conditioning. Twice, Whitworth reached the Northwest Conference Tournament semifinals and won 61% of their contests overall during Wilson’s four seasons with the Pirates.

“I truly enjoyed my last four years at Whitworth and developed a passion for the Division III culture,” said Wilson. “I appreciate the guidance that I received and feel truly blessed for that opportunity. I am extremely grateful for the relationships I built and those have inspired my love for coaching. My experiences working at Whitworth make me confident and excited to lead the Pacific Boxers.”

Wilson began her coaching career as an assistant at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. She was involved in the skill development with the guards, organizing travel recruiting and monitoring academic success.

“I am confident that Alecia will have tremendous success as a head coach and leader of our women’s basketball program here at Pacific,” said Schumann.

This spring, Wilson will complete her master’s degree from Whitworth in Marriage and Family Therapy. She was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Montana Western, where she earned her bachelor’s in psychology. At Montana Western, she was a four-year starter and three-year captain. As a senior, she was an honorable mention all-conference selection and as a junior, she led the Frontier Conference in assists, despite playing most of the year as a power forward.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to be the new head coach at Pacific University. I am passionate about guiding student-athletes to success, in all areas of their life,” said an excited Wilson. “My two passions in life are basketball and helping people grow – I see that opportunity to fulfill that at Pacific University.”
