Alaina Woo joins Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Basketball staff as Assistant Coach

Former Pomona-Pitzer Women’s Basketball player Alaina Woo has joined the program as an assistant coach for the 2018-2019 season as announced by Head Coach Jill Pace.

Woo returns to Pomona-Pitzer following a year long stint at Tufts University where she assisted the Jumbos to a 26-5 record, including appearances in the NCAA Elite 8 and NESCAC championship.

As a Sagehen, Woo was a four-year starter and two-year captain. She capped her senior year earning first team All-SCIAC honors, surpassing the 1,000-point mark and leading the conference in scoring with 16.7 points per game. Woo graduated as the all-time career three-point leader for the Sagehens, and currently sits top-10 on the all-time scoring list. Off the court, Woo served as chair of the Pomona-Pitzer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, representative for the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and Chair of the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Engagement Committee.

“We could not be more excited to welcome Alaina back to Pomona-Pitzer as an assistant coach”, said Pace. “As a player, she left her mark on our program with her leadership and competitive fire. I have no doubt that Alaina’s experience at Tufts and as a Sagehen student-athlete will help her make an immediate impact.”

“Learning from Coach Berube and Coach Barnosky at Tufts this last year has been an amazing experience”, said Woo. “I am so grateful to have had their guidance in my first year as a coach. I am thrilled and honored to return home to the Sagehens and be on a staff with the women who inspired me to pursue coaching. Thank you to Coach Pace for this opportunity.”

Woo graduated from Pomona College with a degree in Public Policy Analysis, and a concentration in Science, Technology and Society. She is a native of San Carlos, CA.
