Description:

The Athletics Department at Marist University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as Assistant Coach I, Women’s Basketball. This position will report to the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball. As Assistant Coach I, the primary responsibility will be the identification, research of, and communication with prospective student-athletes during the calendar year and include the coordination of staff recruitment plans and efforts. Assistant Coach I will participate in the preparation, coordination, and execution of practice & game plans during the academic year and assist in the academic, personal, and career mentoring of student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid driver’s license with no serious convictions

Essential Functions:

Recruit athletes to Marist University by:

  • Actively monitoring and evaluating student-athletes in the transfer portal.
  • Developing relationships with prospective student-athletes, coaches, parents, and other individuals associated with prospective student-athletes.
  • Researching the tournaments, showcases, high school games, tryouts, and other relevant recruiting opportunities of prospective student-athletes.
  • Preparing and coordinating the recruiting calendar and accommodations in accordance with the NCAA, The Metro Conference, and institution regulations.
  • Evaluating prospective student-athletes by traveling to the tournaments, showcases, high school games, tryouts, and other relevant recruiting opportunities during permissible recruiting periods.
  • Conducting appropriate communication with coaches, prospective student-athletes, and parents.
  • Coordinating and executing official and unofficial visits to campus for prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Active participant in all NCAA rules education programs.

Provide mentoring to student-athletes inside and outside of practice on their academic, personal, civic, and career aspirations for the future.

Assist the Head Coach in developing the game strategy and designing effective and efficient training and practices for both the team and individual student-athlete by:

  • Formulating effective game plans for competition.
  • Conducting individual and small group training sessions.
  • Conducting comprehensive film review from practices and games.
  • Preparing daily team practice plans.
  • Working games and practices.

Assist in other tasks as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Director.

  • Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University.
  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
  • Tuition Benefits:
  • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
  • University pays 100% tuition only.
  • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
