The University of Pittsburgh has named Robin Harmony as the 11th head coach of its women’s basketball program, Director of Athletics Allen Greene announced on Monday afternoon.
A native of Hershey, Pa., Harmony brings a proven track record of success, totaling 369 career victories across 19 seasons as head coach. Most recently, Harmony guided the College of Charleston to a historic 2025-26 campaign, capturing both the program’s first-ever CAA regular-season and tournament championships.
Harmony is the winningest coach in the College of Charleston’s Division I era with 122 victories and led the Cougars to a program-record 27 this past season. The 2025-26 campaign also marked her second consecutive 25-win season.
She was named the 2026 CAA Coach of the Year and guided star guard Taryn Barbot to back-to-back CAA Player of the Year honors, highlighting her ability to develop elite talent and lead high-performing teams.
“We are thrilled to welcome Robin Harmony to Pitt,” Greene said. “Throughout this process, it was important for us to find someone who understands the value of connection with our student-athletes, with our alumni, and with the broader Pitt community. Coach Harmony has built a reputation on forming meaningful relationships with student-athletes and leading with an athlete-centered philosophy that prioritizes their growth both on and off the court.
“Coach Harmony has consistently built winning programs throughout her career, having won 369 games in 19 seasons as a head coach. She most recently led the College of Charleston to a historic 27-win campaign that included conference championships, the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance and CAA Coach of the Year honors. We are excited about the future of Pitt Women’s Basketball under her leadership.”
Harmony, who joins the Panthers after successful tenures as the head coach at the College of Charleston (2019-26), and Lamar (2013-19), also served as the first head coach of St. Thomas (Fla.), an NAIA member, from 2007-2013.
“I am honored by the trust Athletic Director Allen Greene and Jen Tuscano have placed in me by selecting me to lead the University of Pittsburgh’s women’s basketball program,” Harmony said. “I look forward to recruiting exceptional student-athletes to one of the nation’s leading academic institutions with a proud athletic tradition; young women who will succeed in the classroom and compete at the highest level in the ACC. My promise to Pitt fans is to build a team that reflects the spirit of the University and the City of Pittsburgh with grit, determination and teamwork.
“Coaching and teaching in the Petersen Events Center is a dream come true and I’m excited to get started. I ask for the support of our women’s basketball alumni, the Oakland Zoo and all Pitt fans as we grow this program together and create an exciting future for Pitt women’s basketball.”
Harmony has recorded 11 20-win seasons throughout her career, including three consecutive 20-win campaigns at the College of Charleston. Harmony saw Barbot become the Cougars’ all-time leading scorer in its Division I era with 1,715 points in three years. Harmony also mentored Grace Ezebilo to single-season records in rebounds (397) and offensive rebounds (158). Ezebilo garnered CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, further underscoring Harmony’s ability to develop standouts on both sides of the ball.
At Lamar, Harmony established the Cardinals as a powerhouse in the Southland Conference, winning three Southland Conference championships and appearing in four postseason tournaments. During her tenure, Lamar won 42 straight home games, the second-longest home winning streak in the country at the time, behind UConn. In six seasons at the helm, she constructed a record of 115-68 overall with an 83-25 mark in conference games, setting the school record for winning percentage (.769) and most Southland Conference wins (83).
In 2018, Harmony was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinals to a 24-7 overall record, a regular-season title and second-straight WNIT appearance. Under Harmony’s tutelage, 14 players earned all-conference nods.
Harmony’s first head coaching role came at St. Thomas (Fla.), where she built the program from the ground up as the university’s first-ever women’s basketball head coach. During six years with the program, Harmony held an impressive 132-48 overall record. She was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year twice (2009, 2013) and reached the NAIA National Tournament three times. In 2013, Harmony saw Constina Cousins named as the Sun Conference Player of the Year as well as Dannisha Pierce be named as a Co-Defensive Player of the Year. In her final season with the Bobcats, the team won a school-record 27 games and went undefeated in conference play.
A former standout guard/forward at Miami (Fla.), Harmony is the only player in Hurricane men’s or women’s basketball history to record 1,000 points, 750 rebounds, 400 assists and 300 steals in their career. She helped the Hurricanes to a 24-15 record during her freshman campaign, the program’s first 20-win season. Miami went on to win the school’s first Florida AIAW State Championship. In 1982, Harmony set the school record for assists in a game with 14. Harmony was the first women’s basketball player inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame, as she finished with totals of 1,308 points, 750 rebounds, 445 assists and 314 steals in 125 games.
Throughout her career, Harmony has earned recognition for her recruiting success, player development, and ability to build strong team culture. Her leadership is expected to usher in a new era for the Panthers as they look to rise in one of the nation’s most competitive conferences.
Harmony will be officially introduced at a press conference that will be held in the Petersen Events Center on Friday, March 27th at 1 p.m. A live stream of the press conference will be viewed on ACC Network Extra, the ESPN app and Pitt Athletics’ official YouTube channel.
