The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for all aspects of leading a competitive NCAA Division I women’s basketball program, including, but not limited to, coaching (practice and in-game), recruiting, fundraising, positive encouragement towards student-athlete development, scheduling, adherence to all budgetary guidelines, and hiring staff. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach works cooperatively with all constituencies and campus units. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director.

Essential Job Duties

Description of Job Duties

  • Coach student-athletes during games and practices, as well as elevate student performance over time.
  • Manage operations and logistics for the team, including budget, travel, scheduling competitions, arranging team meals, academic affairs, student-athlete welfare, and development.
  • Develop and implement recruiting strategies, including evaluating talent locally, nationally, and internationally; recruit student-athletes to UIW.
  • Hire, manage, and evaluate assistant coaches and graduate assistants.
  • Collaborate with various levels of university personnel, including athletic administration, volleyball staff, and faculty as appropriate.
  • Build strong positive relationships with student-athletes, former student-athletes, faculty, alumni, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must exhibit leadership and professional behavior in dealing with student-athletes.
  • Must be a team player who supports and assists other employees.
  • Ability to coach a successful basketball team at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, alumni, parents, staff, facility, and the San Antonio basketball community.
  • Ability to manage various ongoing responsibilities within a competitive collegiate basketball program, including managing budget, travel, staffing, and parent communications.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA academic and compliance regulations.
  • Must be dependable and have strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree.

Required Work Experience

Five (5) years of collegiate basketball coaching experience. Note that relevant coaching experience at high school or international level will be considered in lieu of said experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven (7) years of coaching experience at the university level.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours

Business hours of Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm with flexibility; extended hours as required, including weekends, evenings and some holidays based on team schedule.
