Ailshie promoted to Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Northwestern State

Northwestern State women’s basketball coach Leasa Ailshie has been promoted to associate head coach, the program announced.

Ailshie, now in her fifth season on the Demon staff, has over 13 years of experience in college basketball, including five as a head coach and three as athletic director and administrator. Her experience and unique skill set, that is different from most college coaches, allows her to serve and excel in multiple roles within the program.

“Over the course of the past four seasons Coach Ailshie has invested so much into this program and these girls we’ve had the opportunity to coach,” head coach Anna Nimz said. “She has helped strengthen the backbone of this program and been a huge part of the success we’ve seen on the court, in the classroom and in the lives of our players. Her hard work and passion for the game makes all of us better and at the end of the day there is no one I’d rather have on the bench next to me.”

On the court she has been the team’s offensive coordinator since her arrival and helps train players with individual skill development.

As the team’s transfer recruiting coordinator, Ailshie has helped bring players like Candice Parramore, Sharna AyresJiselle WoodsonKarmelah DeanJordan Todd and others to NSU that have all exceled on the court and grown as individuals off it during their time as a Demon.

She also serves as the team’s academic liaison, working closely with the student-athletes and NSU academic staff to help guide multiple players to bachelor’s and master’s degrees while playing basketball.
