Shaw University Women’s Basketball is excited to announce the addition of Tyreek Dupree to its coaching staff for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. Dupree will join the program as an Assistant Coach/ Director of Player Development, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a passion for player development.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Dupree to the Shaw University Women’s Basketball family,” said Head Coach Jacques Curtis. “His knowledge of the game, enthusiasm for player development, and experience in working with athletes at a high level make him an incredible asset to our program. We look forward to seeing the impact he will have on our team.”
Dupree is one of the most respected player development coaches in the business. He brings 6 years of coaching experience on the collegiate level (NCAA Division II and juco) and 8 years of player development experience on all levels (Pro, International, AAU and High School).
A native of Farmville, North Carolina, Dupree graduated from Farmville Central high school in 2016. Where he was a standout guard on a 28-0 state championship basketball team. In addition, Dupree served as the team captain.
During his high-school career he was the leading scorer of the NC Blazers AAU program (Elizabeth City, NC) under Coach Berry Ford.
After his high school career, Dupree committed to play at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, NC but his playing career ended abruptly due to a heart condition.
Coach Dupree comes to Shaw University after serving as assistant women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina. During the 2022-23 season, Dupree played a vital role in developing the lady Trojans. In his first season, UMO advanced to the elite 8 of the conference Carolina’s tournament championship game.
Dupree graduated from Elizabeth City State University, where he also was an assistant coach and director of player development under Coach Shawn Walker (2019-22). During his time at ECSU, Dupree became one of the youngest coaches in school history and played a vital role in developing the 2022 CIAA rookie of the year.
Prior to ECSU, Dupree served as a student assistant coach at Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC. Dupree played a major role in helping lead PCC to a historic season, where they won their first Region X conference championship in school history and advance to the 2019 NJCAA Division II national championship tournament. The 2018-19′ group went on to be in the rafters as one of the most prominent teams in PCC history.Coach Dupree is the founder of the WGMI Foundation mentorship program and has his own player development company by the name of ” W.G.M. I (We Gon’ Make It) Player Development”. For years Dupree has had deep roots within his community on and off the court.
