Wagner College women’s head basketball coach Terrell Coburn has announced the additions of three coaching staff members to the 2024-25 Seahawks’ roster.
Assistant coach Kelly Guarino, director of basketball operations Torrie Cash, and video coordinator Yusuf Ali are joining Alycia Gervais and Alexis Lloyd on Coburn’s staff for the upcoming year.
Kelly Guarino most recently acted as the owner and director of Empire State Basketball Club, where she assisted in placing over 25 high school women’s basketball players with NCAA programs.
She was responsible for coaching ten teams and over 80 players along with managing schedules, travel arrangements, and social media accounts.
The Thiells, NY native served as the head women’s basketball coach at Pleasantville High School for the last two seasons, turning a traditionally losing program into one with a positive record year-after-year. She also acted as a Special Education Teacher at Pleasantville High School.
As a player, Guarino spent four seasons with the NJIT women’s basketball program. She appeared in 106 games, starting 97, throughout her collegiate career.
She became one of only five Highlanders to score over 1000 points in their career, also setting the school record for most three-pointers made (750). All-time, she also ranks first in free-throw percentage (86.2), and second in three-point percentage (35.7).
Guarino scored a career-high 28 points in a win against Colgate on December 14, 2018, connecting on seven threes. She scored over 20 points five times in her final season at NJIT.
Academically, she became the first female NJIT athlete to earn ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing (2018) and an MBA (2019) with a 3.955 GPA. She was also named to the Dean’s List in seven-out-of-eight of her undergraduate semesters.
Torrie Cash most recently served as the Director of Operations for Monmouth during the 2022-23 season.
Prior to being named the Director of Basketball Operations for Coastal Carolina’s 2021-22 campaign, Cash spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach for the Chanticleers.
Cash spent her junior and senior seasons on the hardwood for Coastal Carolina. During her senior campaign, Cash started all 29 games she played in. Cash completed the year averaging 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, highlighted by two separate 23-point showings against UL-Monroe and Troy, as well as an eight-steal performance against Georgia Southern.
As a junior, Cash appeared in 32 games, starting 23, averaging 5.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
During the 2019-2020 seasons, Cash helped the Chanticleers obtain a 25-4 overall record with a 15-3 mark in conference play.
Cash received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication with a minor in Recreation and Sports Management from Coastal Carolina. After, Cash earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida.
Before Coastal Carolina, Cash spent two seasons at Monroe Community College where she averaged 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.
Yusuf Ali joins the Wagner women’s basketball program by way of the University of Southern California, where he served as the Head Manager and Video Coordinating Assistant for the USC Women’s Basketball Team during the 2023-2024 season.
The Aurora, CO native was responsible for live coding practices, and creating scouting packages for opposing teams by extracting clips from Hudl and Synergy.
With his help, the Trojans finished 29-6, their most wins in a season since 1985-1986. They also reached the NCAA Tournament Regional Final, their longest postseason run since the 1994 tournament.
Ali graduated from USC in 2024 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Sports Media Industry Studies. He was named to the USC Marshall Dean’s List and awarded the USC Presidential Scholarship.
Prior to his time with the Trojans, Ali played and coached men’s basketball at Overland High School in Aurora, CO. Following his first two seasons as a player, he made the jump to the coaching staff where he assisted staff with film breakdown and ran individual workouts during the summer.
The Seahawks will open their 2024-25 season at the Spiro Sports Center on Monday, November 4 against Saint Elizabeth. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
