Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball head coach L’Tona Lamonte welcomed the addition of Mike Moses, Jr. as the women’s basketball assistant coach.
“I’m excited to welcome Coach Moses to our women’s basketball team,” said Lamonte. “His basketball knowledge, his familiarity with the CIAA, his recruiting ties in North Carolina, and throughout the southeast should be an asset for us.”
Moses joins the Rams after spending last season with North Carolina A&T State University as the recruiting coordinator.
“I am so thankful to Coach Lamonte for allowing me to join her staff here at Winston-Salem State University,” said Moses, Jr. “I am very familiar with the rich history here at Winston and it’s a blessing to be a part of the Ramily now. I’m also very excited to be back in the CIAA, it feels like home.”
Prior to NCAT, he was an assistant coach and director of recruiting at Western Kentucky University. He helped with organizing all the Troppers campus visits for prospects.
Most of the success Moses has garnered has come on the high school level at St. Paul’s High School in St. Paul’s, N.C. The Bulldogs went 97-24 under Moses in five seasons, including a 67-3 mark and three conference championships over his final three seasons with the program. Last year at NC A&T Moses helped with the development of the guards. Moses was a part of the Lady Aggies most successful postseasons run in women’s basketball history. The Lady Aggies made it to the sweet 16 of the WNIT.
He is the Three-time Robeson County coach of the year (2018, 2019, 2020), and in 2020, and 2021 he was named the Three Rivers Conference Class 2A Coach of the Year. Moses also brings CIAA experience to the Rams after serving as an assistant coach with the Fayetteville State men’s basketball program (2009-15) under current WSSU Men’s Basketball Coach Corey Thompson. He also played collegiately for the Broncos and earned a degree in education from the university in 2010.
Moses also coached the AAU team Carolina Flames in the Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), considered AAU’s top league. Moses led the Flames to the Nike National Championships final four.
Moses’ father played college basketball at Florida and St. John’s, leading the Red Storm to the Final Four in 1984-85. He was an assistant coach in men’s basketball at Maine, Xavier, Delaware and Rutgers.
