North Central University (NCU) Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of David Rohrbach as its new women’s basketball head coach. Rohrbach gets promoted to head coach after spending last season as the full-time assistant for the Rams. He will officially begin his new role with North Central on Monday, July 1st.
Last year, Coach Rohrbach helped lead North Central’s Women’s Basketball to its 6th straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) playoff appearance. The team also won its second straight National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) North Regional Championship and went on to compete as the #5 seed in the 2023-24 NCCAA DII National Tournament.
Prior to serving as an NCU assistant coach, David spent 8 years as a high school head varsity basketball coach where he has an overall record of 113-61. In 2022-23, he was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Brookings High School in Brookings, SD. From 2015-2022, He was the Head Boys Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Aberdeen Christian School in Aberdeen, SD. Here, he led his team to 3 straight State B Tournament appearances from 2020-2022 with conference championships in 2020 and 2022. He was voted a Top 6 Coach of the Year for the 2019-20 season and received All-Area Coach of the Year in 2020. In 2021, he also was voted Region 1 Coach of the Year. The 2021-22 season marked Rohrbach’s 6th straight winning season. In his 8 years of coaching high school basketball, he has had multiple players go on to play at the collegiate level across various divisions.
Rohrbach graduated from Valley City State University and Trinity Bible College with double majors in physical education and biblical studies in 2014. He played 4 years of collegiate basketball at Trinity Bible in which he earned NCCAA All-Region Honorable Mention honors.
Interim Athletic Director, Jeremy Becker, had this to say on Coach Rohrbach, “Dave loves this place and loves the program. He is fired up to continue to grow the foundation that has been built here. I have no doubt that Dave will work to help give all the student-athletes a positive experience and do everything he can to help put them in a position to be successful on the floor and in life. Dave is the type of person we need in our department; he has a genuine love for people and is willing to help anyone when needed. I am excited for him and the future of the program!”
Coach Rohrbach states, “I am very thankful and excited to be named the head women’s basketball coach at North Central University. This program has had much success in recent years, and I look forward to continuing to build a culture of excellence both on and off the court. North Central is a special place, and I can’t wait to work with such a great group of ladies. I would like to thank Jeremy Becker, Lydia Warner, Dr. Libengood, and President Graham for this opportunity to lead our women’s basketball team. Go Rams!
