Michael Perretta joins New Haven Women’s Basketball Staff

University of New Haven head women’s basketball coach Debbie Buff announced the addition of Michael Perretta, the son of longtime Villanova head coach Harry Perretta, who racked up nearly 800 wins in 42 years leading the Wildcats, as the Chargers assistant coach beginning with the 2024-25 season.

“We are blessed to have someone with such basketball pedigree as Coach Perretta join our Charger family,” said Buff. “He comes from a basketball family and separated himself from other candidates with his drive, maturity and passion. He has hit the ground running and is fully engaged to be part of a successful upcoming season.”

A graduate of Villanova, Perretta comes to New Haven following the last year serving as an intern with the Wildcats Athletics Media Relations department where he served as the main contact for field hockey, men’s lacrosse and water polo.

“I am incredibly grateful to Coach Buff for the opportunity to be a Charger, commented Perretta. “Once I stepped foot on campus for the first time, I felt a sense of comradery and family. Being able to begin my collegiate coaching career at an institution like New Haven is an incredible blessing and I could not be more excited to get to work.”

In addition to spending his youth around Wildcat women’s basketball teams, Perretta has served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant of the girl’s basketball team at Archbishop Carroll High School since 2021, all while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in communication. During his time with Archbishop Carroll, he helped lead the Lions varsity team to the 2023 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 6A State Championship.
