D3 NEWS: Rini named WBB Interim Head Coach at Misericordia

Jess Rini has been named the interim head women’s basketball coach at Misericordia University, Chuck Edkins, director of athletics, has announced.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Jess Rini back to the Misericordia University community as our women’s basketball coach,” said Edkins.  “Her experience and passion for the game of basketball will be an asset to our program.”

Rini, who previously spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the Cougars, most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Scranton. 

“I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to be the next head women’s basketball coach at Misericordia University,” said Rini.  “I would like to thank the Director of Athletics Chuck Edkins and the entire search committee for having confidence in me to lead this outstanding program. I’m so excited for the opportunity to coach and mentor these talented student-athletes. I look forward to working with the entire Misericordia administration and staff and, most importantly, getting involved in our community. I want to thank my coaches and mentors who have prepared me for this amazing opportunity. I am excited to get to work!”

In her one season at Scranton, the Lady Royals were 28-1 and won the Landmark Conference championship.

In two seasons as the GA at Misericordia, she helped the Cougars to a 43-13 record and two trips to the MAC Freedom championships.

She has also served as a head coach and player development coach with the NEPA Elite AAU program.

As a student-athlete at Mt. St. Mary College, Rini was a four-year starter and three-year team captain.  She was a three-time first-team All-Skyline Conference and scored more than 1,000 points in her career.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Mt. St. Mary and earned her MBA from Misericordia.
