Watkins named Director of WBB Player Development at UT Arlington

Will Watkins, who has experience with organizations at the professional and collegiate levels, has been named the director of player development for the UT Arlington women’s basketball program.

Most recently, Watkins spent the past six months as the basketball analytics and video coordinator for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings, where he also served a stint as a basketball operations assistant in the summer of 2021. In between those two tenures, he spent a year and a half with Wisconsin’s women’s basketball program as a video coordinator.

“I’m excited to add Will to our Lady Mav family,” UT Arlington head coach Shereka Wright said. “His knowledge of the game to go along with his ability to develop players was a big draw for me. His experience at the professional and collegiate levels will have an immediate impact on our program. Will has great energy and enthusiasm, and our players and staff will enjoy being around him every day.”

Watkins served as a graduate assistant with Eastern New Mexico University’s women’s basketball program in 2020-21 and worked with player development while serving as video coordinator at Texas A&M – Commerce in 2019-20.

On top of that, Watkins spent two and a half years as a front office intern with the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks from 2017-19.

Watkins replaces Jordynn Hernandez, who departed to take an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator position with Stephen F. Austin’s women’s basketball. He will join a staff that already includes two other newcomers in assistant coach David Pierre Jr. and director of operations JD Brooks.
