The Marquette University women’s basketball team and head coach Megan Duffy announced the hiring of Khadijah Rushdan as an assistant coach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Khadijah and her family to Marquette. Khadijah has a tremendous playing background with experience playing in the WNBA and overseas, as well as great success with Rutgers and USA Basketball,” Duffy Said. “Her ability to connect with student-athletes and to help provide them with a holistic and valuable experience with Marquette basketball is exciting. Khadijah’s work ethic and passion for the game will only enhance things here.”
Rushdan joins the Marquette staff after spending the past five seasons as an assistant coach at North Florida. Her primary duties at MU will include player development, scouting and recruiting.
While at North Florida, Rushdan helped develop forward Jazz Bond into the program’s first-ever WNBA draft pick. Bond, twice named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, spent four years in the program with Rushdan before being selected in the 2022 WNBA Draft.
A specialist in guard play and development at UNF, Rusdan also helped coach Marissa Mackins to an All-ASUN First Team selection in 2020-21. Rhetta Moore was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year while also earning all-tournament honors in 2020-21.
Prior to her time at North Florida, Rushdan spent one season as an assistant coach at LaSalle and three seasons as an assistant coach at St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Additionally, she was a member of the coaching staff at the 2022 US Olympic Women’s Basketball U16 Trials.
As a player, Rushdan had a high level of success at the collegiate, professional and national team levels. After a strong collegiate career at Rutgers, she was selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She spent one season there before playing professionally in Israel in 2012-13.
As a guard at Rutgers from 2007-12, she appeared in 135 games for the Scarlet Knights, tied for second-most in program history. She ranks 21st in Rutgers’ scoring ranks with 1,288 career points. She helped her team to NCAA tournament appearances all five seasons, including an Elite Eight in 2007-08 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2008-09.
Rushdan won a gold medal at the 2006 FIBA Americas Championship as a member of the USA U18 National Team. At St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Delaware, Rushdan was a 2007 McDonald’s All-American and was a three-time Delaware State Player of the Year and the second leading scorer in state history with 2,414 points. She was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum Hall of Fame and St. Elizabeth Hall of Fame in 2022.
Rushdan earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Rutgers University in 2012, then returned to her alma mater for a master’s degree in global sports business in 2018.
