UNC Greensboro head women’s basketball coach Trina Patterson recently announced two new additions to her staff. Jodi Page will serve as an assistant coach, while Abby Vampatella will assume the role of Director of Player Development.

Page comes to Greensboro after one year at New Mexico State University as the Director of Player Development.
“Jodi is a great person who will fit our culture of personal and professional development,” stated coach Patterson. “She embodies all the characteristics we were looking for to fill this position. Certainly, international recruiting is one of her strengths. But we know that she is strong in player development, relationship building and she will be vital to us when you talk about team building and recruiting. We are thrilled to add Jodi to our coaching staff.”
Prior to her time with the Aggies, Page spent two seasons as an assistant basketball coach at California State University Fullerton, where she was in charge of instructing guards and aiding with recruiting.
Under Page’s oversight, guard Raina Perez was named Big West Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Big West honors. She also helped coach Second Team All-Big West honoree Taylor Turney during her time in Fullerton.
Prior to working with the Titans, Page served as the assistant director of operations for women’s basketball at Arizona State. She also spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern Washington before traveling to Tempe, Arizona.
In her role at EWU, Page was in charge of instructing the guards in addition to preparing and presenting scouting reports and facilitating the program’s day-to-day operations. With the Eagles, she coached Delaney Hodgins, who went on to become the programs all-time leading scorer. Hodgins eventually went on to play overseas after earning first-team All-Big Sky honors in 2018.
The newest member of the Aggie staff also has nearly 20 years of coaching experience in her home country of Australia. Her coaching duties ranged from U12 to the Queensland (QLD) Senior Women’s levels. She spent 18 years coaching various clubs and representative teams throughout the state.
In the Land Down Under, Page helped guide Matthew Finders Anglican College to QLD State School Championships in 2010 and 2012. She then became an assistant coach for her former club team, the Maroochydore Clippers of the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) in 2012. Her final assignment in Australia came in 2012, where she served as head coach of Maroochydore’s U/18 team from 2012-14. She won the QLD 2nd Division State Championships with Maroochydore in 2014 and finished fourth in 1st Division in 2015.
Over her time as a coach in Australia, Page also organized and coached teams that traveled to the United States to play in AAU Tournaments and attend coaching camps. She has helped several players from Australia earn scholarships to colleges in America.
Page played collegiate basketball in the United States, attending San Jose State from 1987-1989. After college, Page played for the Maroochydore Clippers, a club team in the QBL, for 17 seasons until her retirement in 2009. Page still holds the QBL record for most career games played by a female for her club, with 324.
Page is the mother of two former NCAA Division I athletes. Her son, Jorden, played basketball for Saint Mary’s from 2009-13, and her daughter, Soraya, competed for Florida International from 2015-17.
Vampatella finished her first year as a graduate assistant manager for the Spartans’ women’s basketball program during the 2021-22 season. She is pursuing her Master’s of Applied Arts and Sciences.
“Abby is the perfect choice to develop this new position for our program,” stated head coach Trina Patterson. “She will assist in various areas focused on helping student-athletes succeed both on and off the court, and serve the coaching staff. Abby is a high energy, positive person who is a great fit for our program.”
As a graduate assistant, Vampatella aided the coaching staff with recruiting visits, scouting, practice plans, while managing all social media accounts for the program, creating graphics and videos, and taking photos. She also worked closely with the Director of Basketball Operations on food, travel, and other team operations.
Vampatella is a 2021 graduate of Gordon College in Massachusetts, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a minor in history. She played basketball for the Fighting Scots and was the vice president for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
