Cassie Lastivka has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach at Ohio Northern.
Lastivka comes to ONU from Wilmington, where she served as an assistant women’s basketball coach beginning in July 2020. She acted as the interim head coach there from November 2021 to January 2022 and has also coached in the Ohio Elite Basketball AAU program since December 2020.
Lastivka boasts over eight years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division III, JUCO, Ohio Division III high school, Ohio Division I high school and AAU levels.
She has an overall record of 50-19 as an NCAA Division III assistant coach and student assistant coach and a mark of 82-34 as a varsity assistant and head JV coach at the high school level.
Lastivka graduated from Ohio Northern with a B.S. in sport management in 2015 and went on to earn a master’s degree in recreation and sport sciences with a concentration in coaching education from Ohio University in 2016. She also holds an M.B.A. in sport management from Tiffin.
Lastivka started her coaching career as a student assistant for the women’s basketball team at ONU from 2013 to 2015 after playing for the Polar Bears from 2011 to 2013. The team posted a combined record of 91-20 and made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during those four seasons.
She proceeded to serve as a volunteer assistant at Hocking College from 2015 to 2016 in the school’s first-ever year for athletics and went on to be the assistant varsity coach at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati from 2017 to 2018.
She later served as a coach and associate director for the Cincy Nation AAU travel basketball organization and the head JV and assistant varsity coach at Mercy McAuley High School in Cincinnati.
During her two years at Wilmington, Lastivka helped coach an All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team selection in McKayla Binkley, who graduated in 2021 as a 1,000-point scorer.
