Georgia Southern assistant women’s basketball coach Deont’a McChester has been promoted to associate head coach, announced today by head coach Anita Howard.
McChester will begin his third season with the Eagles for the upcoming 2022-23 campaign. Over the last two seasons, he has helped Georgia Southern to a 29-23 record, including last season’s 18-10 year that was the best season for Eagle women’s basketball in more than a decade. As the recruiting coordinator, McChester has been instrumental in bringing in student-athletes who have earned Sun Belt Weekly and Season honors and as a defensive coach, he has been instrumental in the Eagles ranking nationally in steals and turnovers forced over the last two seasons.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Coach D,” Coach Howard said. “He’s a tireless worker who has been essential to me with building this program by bringing in top tier recruits to don an Eagle jersey. Not only is he a loyal colleague, he is a true friend that is dedicated to the mission and the vision I have for this program. I’m excited to have him by my side as my associate!”
