Williams tabbed as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Penn State Behrend

Mashea Williams has been named the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball assistant coach. Williams, a former standout basketball player at Mercyhurst Prep and Penn State, comes to the Behrend sidelines after spending three seasons as the head women’s basketball coach at Mercyhurst North East.

While at Mercyhurst North East, Williams was named the NJCAA Region III 2019-20 Coach of the Year. That same year, she was inducted into the Erie Metro Sports Hall of Fame and was named the Erie Times Sports Woman of the Year.

Williams was a key player on two PIAA championship teams at Mercyhurst Prep. She was a two-time District 10 Basketball Player of the Year, was a First Team All-State Selection in 2004 and 2005 and was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2005. She earned Metro League/Region 4 All-Star Honors all four years and was the Region 4 Player of the Year as a senior. Williams ended her career with 1,669 career points, ranking second in school history.

She went on to play at Penn State from 2005-09. In 108 games as a Lady Lion, Williams started in 64 games and finished with 835 points, 380 rebounds, 239 assists (Top 20 in school history) and 138 steals. The three-time captain won the Jeanette Goss Courage Award. As a senior, Williams averaged 9.1 ppg and was 13th in the Big Ten in assists (3.0 per game). Following her career at Penn State, she played professionally in Germany.

Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human development and family studies with a minor in sociology from Penn State University. She recently earned a Master’s degree in organizational leadership from Mercyhurst University in 2020.
