The Schreiner University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Stacy Stephens as the next Head Coach of the Schreiner University Women’s Basketball team. Coach Stephens will be coming to Schreiner University with an impressive resume filled with accomplishments on and off the basketball court.
As a college basketball standout at the University of Texas from 2000 – 2004, Stephens was a two-time AP All-American who finished her career with over 1,000 points and over 1,000 rebounds, and is still 2nd in the University of Texas record books for Career Rebounds (1,223) and Games Started (134).
In 2017, Stephens was honored by her alma mater by being inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Honor.
After finishing her time at the University of Texas, Stephens was then drafted to the WNBA in 2004 by the Houston Comets, and went on to put together a strong four year professional career in the United States, Portugal, Sweden, and Turkey.
As her playing days came to an end, Stephens then looked to coaching, filling numerous roles over the years as a Assistant Coach at Texas College, Director of Basketball Operations at Colorado State University, Special Assistant at the University of Texas, Assistant Coach at Sam Houston State, Assistant Coach at Our Lady of the Lake University, and most recently, Stacy Stephens took over as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Our Lady of the Lake University in 2019.
“We are excited to add Coach Stephens to our staff to lead the Women’s Basketball program. Her pedigree as a player, two time All-American at the University of Texas under Coach Jody Conradt, and a UT Athletic Department Hall of Famer, as well as coaching experience at all levels of the game is very exciting for our program. More importantly, she impressed me as a person and as a leader who will make a tremendous impact on the entire Schreiner community.” – Bill Raleigh, Director of Athletics
“I am very excited to begin my next step at Schreiner University. I want to thank the President of Schreiner University Dr. McCormick, Vice President Dr. Frampton, Dean of Students Charlie Hueber, and Athletic Director Bill Raleigh for having faith in me to lead the Women’s Basketball team.” – Stacy Stephens
