The Illinois College women’s basketball team welcomes new assistant coach Kayla Morrissey to the staff.
Morrissey comes to Illinois College after being the graduate assistant women’s basketball coach at North Central College for the past two seasons. There she received her Master’s of Business Administration. Prior to North Central, Morrissey was the head girl’s AAU coach for the Flow Basketball Academy.
“I would like to thank Coach Jennifer McCormick and the search committee for the opportunity to be the assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Illinois College. I am excited about the community-driven values of the athletic department and the college. The Midwest Conference holds a special place in my heart, and I cannot wait to return to the conference in this new role. I look forward to helping the student-athletes excel in the classroom and on the court. Go Lady Blues!” Morrissey stated.
Morrissey attended Grinnell College during her undergraduate studies where she received a Bachelor of Arts in General Science with Concentrations in Biology and Statistics. She was also a standout member of the basketball program earning Academic All-Conference, NFCA Scholar Athlete, and CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. She currently ranks third in Grinnell history for points and 3-point percentage and is in the top 10 in Grinnell history in 12 different statistical categories.
Head IC women’s basketball coach Jen McCormick is excited to welcome Morrissey to the team. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Kayla join our program and coaching staff! Kayla has a passion for Division III Athletics, knowledge of the Midwest Conference, a tireless work ethic, and above all else, will be a great leader and mentor for the women in our program. Her values align well with ours, and her positive energy and high character come through in everything she does.”
The Lady Blues will work to improve on their 2020-21 season after finishing the year with an overall record of 7-5.
