North Carolina has added Sam Miller and Sean Sullivan to its women’s basketball staff, head coach Courtney Banghart announced on Monday.
Miller will serve as Director of Scouting and Video Operations and Sullivan will serve as Director of Player Personnel Development and Recruiting Operations. Both bring to Chapel Hill a wealth of experience and a deep familiarity with Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball.
“Sam and Sean will work closely together and we look forward to adding them both to the Carolina family,” Banghart said.
Miller was a member of the women’s basketball staff at Duke from 2016-20, serving as an assistant coach and video coordinator. He also has been part of the men’s coaching staffs at Western Michigan and Kalamazoo and worked in the NBA Developmental League as a basketball operations/video assistant. He got his start as the boys’ head coach at Hudson (Mich.) High School.
Miller is a graduate of Adrian College, where he was a two-year member of the men’s basketball team, and went on to earn his master’s degree in coaching sports performance from Western Michigan University in 2013.
“It became clear throughout the interview process that Sam is just the person to lead our Video and Scouting efforts,” Banghart said. “He is deeply committed to our sport and has earned valuable experience, both in the film room and as an assistant coach, in the ACC. He is a proven worker and a dedicated teammate. We use film extensively, for both player and team growth, and Sam’s addition to our staff will ensure our continued success on all levels. He will lead our scouting efforts and his experience in the ACC will be an immediate asset. Sam is an impact hire and we’re thrilled he’s a Tar Heel.”
Sullivan has spent the past two seasons as the Director of Video for the women’s basketball program at Pitt. For two years prior to that, he was part of the Penn State women’s basketball staff, serving as Director of Scouting & Digital Technology. As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, he spent four years as a women’s basketball manager then became the team’s Video Coordinator. He also spent a summer as Video Coordinator for USA Basketball, where he was part of the women’s squad that won silver at the 2015 Pan Am Games.
“Sean is a rising star in women’s basketball,” Banghart said. “He has a dedicated work ethic, a comprehensive skill set, and an infectious personality that will ensure him a valuable role in our program. He has spent time in both the ACC and the Big 10 as the leader in video operations, and is ready to utilize all that he’s learned to be a great asset to our player and team development. Sean is responsible for helping to develop and progress our players and team, assist in scouting, utilize film to ensure practice preparation, and to provide support in recruiting operations. He will impact our program in countless ways.”
