Loyola University Maryland announced today that Joe Logan will not return as its head women’s basketball coach.
Logan recently completed his 16th year as the Greyhounds head coach.
“I am grateful to Joe for his tenure on behalf of Loyola University Maryland and the women’s basketball program,” said Donna M. Woodruff, Loyola’s assistant vice president and director of athletics. “As an alumnus who led our program for 16 seasons as our head coach, Joe will always be a valued member of the Loyola Athletics family and the greater university community.
“Joe showed a passion not only to his student-athletes and program, but also to the University’s mission and its commitment to educating the whole person. We wish Joe, Susan and their family all the best moving forward.”
Logan is a 1996 graduate of Loyola who was an assistant coach at the school from 1997-2001. He compiled a 184-287 record as the Greyhounds’ head coach and leaves as the leader in all-time wins for the program.
The Greyhounds excelled in the classroom during Logan’s tenure, earning Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I Academic Honor Roll each of the last five years, and Loyola is one of three schools nationally to be listed in the top-15 of those rankings each of the last three years.
Logan coached the Greyhounds to three conference championship games, including the 2016 Patriot League final, and his players earned 20 all-conference selections, 12 All-Rookie team honors and were major award winners seven times during his tenure.
He led Loyola to first WNIT appearance in 2011, with the Greyhounds picking up their first postseason victory in the first round. Logan was the 2006-07 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, and his first two teams posted 38 wins. The 2011 team tied the program record with 21 wins.
Loyola will begin a national search immediately.
