Allen University Athletic Director Dr. Jerome Fitch has announced that Toccara Tatum is the new head women’s basketball coach. The athletic committee narrowed the heavy pool of candidates down to three candidates and Coach Tatum was selected to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets. Coach Tatum is coming to Allen with 19 years of coaching experience and was most recently at Carolina University in Winston-Salem, NC for the past two seasons in which she was 36-21 and led the Lady Bruins to the NCCAA Regional Tournament Championship Game in both seasons. The Lady Bruins ranked as high as #6 in the country. Coach Tatum had four Scholar Athletes named in the south region and four players named to the All-South Region team in the NCCAA.
The North, South Carolina native is looking forward to getting back to the Palmetto State and taking over a program that won 23 games last year, a school record. Allen University is transitioning into the NCAA Division II as they start provisional period this season and have already joined the Southern Intercollegeiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). “Tatum, is a relentless recruiter and plenty of coaching experience and we looking forward to her joining the AU family.” stated Athletic Director Dr. Jerome Fitch.
“I want to thank President Dr. Ernest McNealey, Athletic Director Dr. Jerome Fitch, and the Athletic Committee for the opportunity to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets and be a part of the AU family as we transition into the NCAA Division II.” stated Coach Tatum.
The Lady Jackets will open their season on January 9 at home against Albany State University.
