Miller Named Assistant Coach at UNCG

Alexandra (Alex) Miller is returning to the Tar Heel state.

UNC Greensboro (UNCG) head women’s basketball coach Trina Patterson announced the hiring of Miller as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Miller arrives to UNCG from Mississippi Valley State University where she spent the last two years in the same role.

“I am delighted to welcome Alex Miller to our staff to serve as assistant basketball coach,” Patterson said. “Alex brings a knowledge base for player development, high energy, and a commitment to mentoring student athletes to being their very best in the classroom, on the court and in the community. The combination of her successful playing experiences at an elite level and collegiate and grassroot coaching experiences will allow for impactful contributions within our program.”

Prior to MVSU, Miller coached at Hillside High School in Durham and Team Wall 16U & 17U AAU teams, sponsored by NBA player John Wall, in Raleigh during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

She was a guard for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women’s basketball team from 2004-09.  She was a four-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion and played in the 2006 and 2007 NCAA Final Fours. Miller was a top on the ball defender and led the team in charges.

As a senior, Miller suffered a career ending knee injury but developed a passion for coaching as she became a student coach for the UNC team and learned alongside Hall of Fame coach Sylvia Hatchell.  Miller graduated from UNC with a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies.

Miller was a standout basketball player at Hillside High School. She was a four-year starter and led the team in scoring, assists and steals throughout her career. She also was a sprinter on the Hillside state championship track and field team.

“I am so excited to be back home,” Miller said. “Returning to my roots will allow me to use my experience and resources from playing basketball and coaching high school and AAU to give back. I appreciate being close enough to have the support of my family. UNCG and coach Patterson are giving me the opportunity to grow.”
