“I am very excited to have Travis as our women’s basketball coach,” said Leach. “Travis brings experience, enthusiasm, and energy to Bryn Athyn. He is a tireless recruiter who will seek to enhance his teams’ success on and off the court.”

Ponton brings 11 years of coaching experience at the high school, NCAA Division I, and NAIA levels with him to Bryn Athyn College.

“It’s a tremendous blessing to come to Bryn Athyn as the second head women’s basketball coach in school history,” stated Ponton. “There are so many people to thank, who have played a role in making me the coach, and more importantly the person, I am today. I’m appreciative of David Leach, President Brian Blair, and the entire Bryn Athyn community who have entrusted me with this responsibility. With practice starting in just a few days, we are already rolling up our sleeves and getting to work, as we take the first steps in building our program on and off the court for years to come.”

Before coming to Bryn Athyn, Ponton was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Division I Long Island University Brooklyn for the 2018-19 season. At LIU Brooklyn, Ponton he helped develop one of the youngest teams in Division I. Freshman Brandy Thomas was selected as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year.

Ponton spent the 2017-18 campaign with Loyola University in New Orleans as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. In his assistant’s role, Ponton was involved in the coordination of recruiting activities, team travel, opponent scouting, player academics, and skills development. The Wolf Pack went 26-6, won the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, and reached the round of 16 in the NAIA Tournament.

For the 2015-16 season, Ponton was an assistant coach for Division I Charleston Southern University in South Carolina. He was in charge of handling team travel, recruiting, film breakdown, and camp preparations. The Buccaneers had a 14-17 overall record, highlighted by a first-round win in the Big South Tournament. It was the team’s first postseason win in four seasons.

Ponton‘s first collegiate coaching job came in the 2014-15 season with Division I Southeastern Louisiana University. After a member of the Lions’ staff, Ponton focused on recruiting, travel, scouting and film breakdown, fundraising, academics, and development of the guards. Under his guidance, point guard Elizabeth Styles ranked 12th in Division I with 6.4 assists per game.

His first involvement in the college game came at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland as the director of women’s basketball operations in 2013-14. That season, the Mount experienced a historic season, finishing 19-14 overall as the Northeast Conference runner-up, advancing to the WNIT.

Ponton began his coaching career at the high school level at various schools in Virginia. During a five-year stretch, Ponton was an assistant girl’s basketball coach at Colonial Heights High School, Cosby High School, and Radford High School.

Outside of coaching, Ponton has worked with Blue Star Media—a national, unbiased resource for girls’ basketball recruiting coverage and beyond—in Philadelphia as a national evaluator, writer, and camp coordinator from 2016 until 2018.
