Rhode Island College has named Sarah Middleton as an assistant women’s basketball coach. Middleton will assist Head Coach Jenna Cosgrove with all phases of the RIC women’s basketball program.
“I am very appreciative of Coach Cosgrove for giving me the opportunity to coach a great team at a great school,” Middleton said. “I am fired up and ready to help build this program and not only push these women to be great basketball players, but to be great people.”
“I am very excited to have Sarah join our coaching staff,” Cosgrove said. “Sarah is a competitive and motivated young coach whose energy will be contagious to our program. Sarah was the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year out of Barrington High School and just finished up her collegiate career at the University of Bridgeport. She will be a great role model and mentor to our players.”
Middleton starred as a guard on the women’s basketball team at Bridgeport from 2017-19. As a senior in 2018-19, she served as a team captain and led the East Coast Conference with 149 assists. She played in 29 games, starting 27 of them, and averaged 7.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.1 apg and 1.5 spg.
Prior to playing for the Purple Knights, Middleton played two seasons at Franklin Pierce from 2015-17. As a sophomore in 2016-17, she played in 26 games, starting 25 of them. She ranked third on the team in scoring at 8.9 ppg, led the squad and ranked fourth in the NE10 in assists per contest (4.2 apg) and ranked fourth on the squad in steals per game (1.4 spg).
Middleton had an outstanding career at Barrington High School. As a senior in 2014-15, she was named First Team All-State, All-Division and All-Class. She also earned multiple All-Star honors during her freshman through junior campaigns.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Bridgeport in 2019.
