Butler women’s basketball head coach Kurt Godlevske has signed a multi-year contract extension to continue his leadership of the Bulldogs’ program. Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier made the announcement July 22.
“Our women’s basketball program took a large step on the court last season,” said Collier. “This contract extension showcases our belief that Kurt can continue to build our program to be competitive in the BIG EAST on an annual basis while also delivering a quality experience for our student-athletes.”
Godlevske, who was recognized as the 2019 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, guided the Bulldogs to 23 wins a year ago and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the WNIT.
“I would like to thank Butler University President James Danko and Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier for their confidence in me to lead our women’s basketball program,” Godlevske said. “Thank you to all of our Butler Athletic supporters including past and current players. I look forward to continuing to build our program both on and off the floor. It’s an honor to continue to serve you!”
Godlevske enters his sixth season at the helm of the program in 2019-20. After one season as an assistant coach at Butler, he was promoted to head coach beginning with the 2014-15 season.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 23-10 season that included an 11-7 mark in the BIG EAST standings. Butler started the year 15-1 and became just the fourth team in program history to win nine straight games in a single season during the Division I era.
Butler received votes in each national poll last year after starting the conference season 5-0. They were ranked as high as #17 in the NCAA RPI poll (in mid-January), and posted a signature win at #11 Marquette on Feb. 22.
A strong group of returners will mesh with six newcomers for the upcoming season. Godlevske and his staff have one of the most talented recruiting classes in the conference coming on campus for the 2019-20 campaign.
