University of South Carolina Upstate head women’s basketball coach Tammy George announced the hiring of Catrina Green on Monday afternoon.
“I am excited to have Catrina join our staff and basketball program,” George said. “First and foremost she is a great person. Catrina has a great personality and brings a lot of energy and passion for the game. Her experience as a former player in the Big South and years of playing professionally will be a great resource for our players and future recruits. She will work primarily with our post players.”
“I am honored and blessed to be here,” Green said. “I am excited about the transition, especially with USC Upstate being in there second year with the Big South Conference. Having played at Gardner-Webb during my collegiate career it feels great to be back in the Big South. I think that we have great potential this season to make our mark in the conference.”
Green makes her way to USC Upstate from Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, Tenn. While at LMU Green helped the Railsplitters record a 16-14 overall record and a 10-10 conference record. Under the guidance of Green the Railsplitters made it back to South Atlantic Conference Semifinals for a fourth consecutive season.
Prior to her stint in the Volunteer State, Green was an assistant coach at the University of Illinois Springfield during the 2016 season. From April to August 2015, Green was an assistant coach with the Carolina Reign Elite 15U Girls AAU Team in Greensboro, N.C.
Green had two stints professionally overseas, where she played with Club Uniao Sportiva from September 2014 to April 2015 and Club SG Bergisch Lowen September 2016 to March 2017.
Green had a stellar collegiate career at Gardner-Webb University from 2011-2014. Green was one of nine players to surpass the career 1,000-point mark, ranking third with 1,241 points. Green has an even more intriguing stat as she is one of only eight student-athletes to haul in over 500 career rebounds and is the only player to snag over 1,000 with 1,012 in her four-year career.
As a freshman, she was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team, while being a Big South Second Team All-Conference player in 2012 and 2014. She was also on the Big South All-Academic Team as well as the NCCSIA First Team All-State to cap off her senior campaign.
