Sacred Heart University head women’s basketball coach Jessica Mannetti announced the promotion of Dave Scarborough to Associate Head Coach, effective immediately. Scarborough is a rising star within the women’s basketball coaching ranks.
“I am excited and happy for Dave to receive this advanced role in our program,” Mannetti said. “His dedication and work ethic have been impressive throughout the past three seasons and it is a reflection on how hard he works and how passionate he is in helping athletes to achieve their goals. Dave’s goal is to be a head coach one day and he constantly takes pride in being able to practice that role through the many responsibilities he has and the dedication he demonstrates within the program.”
Scarborough is in his third season as a member of the Pioneers coaching staff and now is in his second decade of collegiate coaching. His responsibilities include game scheduling, coaching of post players, lead academic liaison, scouting, equipment management and he is a key part of the Pioneers recruiting efforts.
“I would like to thank Coach Mannetti, Bobby Valentine and Brad Hurlbut for this opportunity,” Scarborough said. “I feel very fortunate to have Coach Mannetti’s confidence and trust, and I’m truly humbled to be a part of the legacy of SHU women’s basketball. Prior to coming to SHU, Scarborough spent three seasons on Pat Coyle’s staff at Saint Peters, where he helped three Peacocks earn All-MAAC accolades. He made the move into the women’s game in 2011 when he joined the staff at the University of Pittsburgh as the Basketball Operations and Video Coordinator.
Scarborough broke into collegiate coaching in 2008 as an assistant coach at La Roche College (NCAA Division III). He made his first foray into the Northeast Conference after that, spending two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Robert Morris University. He was a member of the Colonial staff that won an NEC Championship in his first season and nearly upset Villanova in the NCAA Tournament.
