The Marist women’s basketball program and head coach Brian Giorgis have announced the promotion of assistant coach Erin Doughty to associate head coach. Doughty is entering her 14th season with the team in the 2018-19 season.
Doughty will to continue to serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator along with working with the team’s guards, scouting, and leading technological based initiatives.
“I’m ecstatic for Erin to receive this promotion,” said head coach Brian Giorgis. “She’s the most decorated assistant coach in the MAAC and it’s very well deserved. We couldn’t be any happier for Erin.”
As an assistant Doughty has helped the program achieve new heights including reaching the sweet 16 in 2007 (First MAAC program ever), amassing five NCAA tournament victories, and ten NCAA tournament appearances.
Along with the NCAA accomplishments, Doughty help guide the Red Foxes to a MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. Also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-2010 and 2011-12 seasons. Both streaks are the only ones in MAAC history to reach the 30-game plateau.
“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the Marist women’s basketball program and coaching staff,” said coach Doughty. “I’m thankful to coach Giorgis, Tim Murray, and the administration for believing in me and what I bring to the program. Marist is a special place that means so much to me and my family and I’m excited to continue to work with coach Giorgis and our staff as we build on the excellent foundation we have established both on and off the court.”
Doughty was the active member on the Marist coaching staff that helped bring the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and the women’s basketball program together. In April 2010, the team adopted Nina Triplo from Stone Ridge, N.Y., welcoming her to the Red Fox family. The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for those affected by pediatric brain tumors.
From 2002-05, Doughty was a walk-on guard who appeared in 12 games, made two MAAC All-Academic teams and was one of the Red Foxes’ most popular players. An accurate long-distance shooter, Doughty hit the first two shots she attempted in her collegiate career, both of which were three-pointers. During her senior season, she joined the coaching staff as an assistant, and in her first season with the squad, Marist finished with 23 victories, the highest win total in school history at the time.
Doughty attended Holy Cross High School in Connecticut, where she played four years of varsity volleyball and basketball. In basketball, Doughty became the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made and helped the squad earn a berth in the state championship game in 2002.
Doughty earned her bachelor’s degree from Marist in 2006 and her master’s in 2008 in Psychology. Erin and her husband Mike reside in Poughkeepsie, NY with their two children Chase and Fallon.
