North Florida women’s basketball head coach Darrick Gibbs announced Khadijah Rushdan as the newest assistant coach for the Ospreys.
“I’m excited to welcome Khadijah into our Osprey family! With her experience on and off the court, she will be a tremendous mentor and example for our young ladies,” said Gibbs. “She is an unbelievable person and her intensity and passion for the game and development of players is contagious. I look forward to the immediate impact she will have in our program.”
Rushdan spent the previous season the LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pa. She worked with the guards at LaSalle, was responsible for the planning and execution of Scouting as well as Player Development. Rushdan developed Big 5 First Team Selection Amy Griffin and two-time Athlete and Rookie of the Week Shaq Edwards. In addition, she handled the team’s administrative responsibilities.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Gibbs and be under his guidance and leadership,” said Rushdan. “The energy and passion that surrounds this program is contagious and I’m extremely excited to be able to contribute to its future successes while working with such a great staff!”
Prior to her stint with the Explorers, she was the assistant head coach at St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Del. for three seasons. She was also on the staff for the US Olympic Women’s Basketball U16 Trials in Colorado this spring.
Following a First Team All-Big East selection as a senior at Rutgers, Rushdan was selected 15th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2012. She spent a season in the WNBA before playing for Maccabi Ramat Chen in Israel from 2012-13.
Rushdan played in more games (135) at Rutgers than any player in the program’s history. She is one of two players in program history to record a triple-double, and ranks 20th all-time in scoring with 1,288 points.
Prior to her collegiate days, Rushdan was a member of the 2006 USA U18 National Team that went 4-0 and won the gold medal at the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship that qualified for for the FIBA U19 World Championship. She led the USA in assists avg. 6.0 apg, while adding a team third-best in points at 11.0 ppg and second best in steals at 3.0 ppg in 19 minutes a game.
She was a 2007 McDonald’s, Parade, and WBCA All-American as well as the 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year. Rushdan was a three-time Delaware State Player of the Year and she is the second all-time leading scorer in state history with 2,414 points.
Rushdan graduated from Rutgers in 2012 with a degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies, and earned a master’s degree in Global Sports Business at her alma mater in 2018.
