The Judson University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Doug Porter as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Judson University. He is the ninth head coach in program history.
Porter has vast experiences in coaching women’s basketball and is very familiar with Judson as an opponent due to coaching against the Lady Eagles for many years. Porter’s first head coaching position was at Aurora University where he coached against Judson in the Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference (NIIC) from 1994-1996. In both years his teams won the NIIC Regular-Season Championship. His 1994-95 team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA National Tournament. In both seasons he was named the NIIC Coach of the Year.
Following his two-year stint at Aurora, Porter would go on to lead the Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball program for 14 years from 1998-2012 as a member of the CCAC Division I (Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference). At Olivet, Porter garnered five CCAC Regular-Season Championships and three CCAC Tournament Championships. His teams made four NAIA Division I National Tournament appearances including advancing to the second round in 2010-11. His 2007-08 team established a new NAIA national single-season scoring record with a 104.1 points-per-game average. In his final season at Olivet, Porter’s team finished the season ranked an impressive No. 11 in the NAIA after a 27-5 season and a 10-0 conference run. He made the hard decision of resigning from the helm after that season to serve his family’s needs at the time. He has a career head coaching record of 312-196 (.614 winning percentage).

Porter has also had some assistant coach roles in his tenure starting with NCAA Division-II West Texas A&M University (1991-1994), North Central College (2012-2017), and most recently with Wheaton College (1986-1989, 2017-2018). He is ready to get back into head coaching again and run his own program.

Judson University looks forward to Porter’s arrival on campus in the coming weeks as his official start date is June 1.
