Blankson Named DePaul Assistant Coach

Candis Blankson has been named DePaul women’s basketball assistant coach after serving last season as the staff’s Director of Corporate, Professional and Community Relations.

Blankson played at DePaul for coach Doug Bruno from 1997-2001 and moved into the role of assistant coach prior to the 2001-02 season.

Since Blankson joined the staff, the Blue Demons have won 401 games that included 20 or more victories in 15 seasons.

In the 2011-12 season, Blankson was named to the Top 25 High Major Women’s College Basketball assistant coaches by CollegeInsider.com.

Blankson has been instrumental in DePaul winning five consecutive BIG EAST regular-season titles and its third BIG EAST Tournament championship in five years in early March after a 98-63 triumph over Marquette at Wintrust Arena.

She has made key contributions to a program that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 16th year in a row in mid-March. Blankson helped guide the Blue Demons to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2006, 2011, 2014 and 2016.

“We are excited to welcome back Candis to the court and sideline after a year of doing a magnificent job as Director of Corporate, Professional and Community Relations,” Bruno said. “Regardless of title, Candis has always been a major contributor to our DePaul women’s basketball athletic and academic success.

“Candis is the consummate team player and demonstrated that again with her willingness to move from coaching to administration and back to coaching. We would not be the winning program we are without all the great contributions from Candis.”
