The University of Virginia’s College at Wise announced Jamie Cluesman as the school’s new head women’s basketball coach Friday. Cluesman coached the last four seasons at Shepherd University, where she served as an assistant coach for the Rams. She becomes the 17th coach in program history, since the College became a four year institution.
“I am grateful for this incredible opportunity and I cannot wait to get on campus and get to work,” remarked Cluesman. “There are so many people to thank for preparing me for this moment: my family, my coaches, my teammates and the players I’ve been privileged to coach.”
A Jonesville, Va. native, Cluesman was a four-year letter winner at Concord University. With the Mountain Lions, she finished as the school’s all-time leader in assists while aiding the school to back-to-back 20-win seasons as a junior and a senior. A two-time All-WVIAC performer, Cluesman finished her collegiate career with 904 points, 536 rebounds, 655 assists and 277 steals.
While at Shepherd, she helped the Rams turn a 4-23 record into a NCAA Tournament berth and Mountain East Conference regular season championship during her tenure. Cluesman coached the Mountian East Conference’s all-time leading scorer and five other all-league performers during her time in Shepherdstown.
Cluesman began her coaching career at her alma mater where she served as an assistant coach for six seasons. During her time as a coach at Concord, the Mountain Lions posted an overall winning record while producing nine all-conference players and an All-American in 2012.

Her playing, coaching and recruiting background are ideal to lead our women’s basketball program.”
The coach has two cousins, Chelsea and Mackenzie Cluesman who each scored over 1,000 points in a Cavalier uniform, a third cousin, Chase Cluesman, is a current member of the UVa-Wise football team.
“UVa-Wise offers facilities that are second to none in our conference,” Cluesman mentioned. “The administration has been a class act, I cannot wait to meet the team and get to work.”
Cluesman obtained a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Concord before later adding a master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania.
