With the 2017-18 season just a bit over two months away, Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball coach Josh Prock introduced to new staff members. Durmon Jennings will be the program’s new assistant coach, while Rachael Eubank joins the staff as a graduate assistant.
The duo will help prepare the team as it looks to build on one of the strongest seasons in program history. Last year, the Hounds won a share of the Lone Star Conference, entered the league tournament as the top seed and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever.
“We are extremely excited to add Durmon Jennings to our coaching staff,” Prock said. “Durmon is a tremendous young man who is a perfect fit for our program. He already has a great understanding of the women’s game with his past experience coaching girl’s high school basketball. Our young ladies are thrilled as well, they have all said great things about him as a coach and person. Durmon is very familiar with everything at Eastern based on his last two years of experience with our men’s team. One of the biggest qualities you look for in an assistant is loyalty and that describes Durmon perfectly. We can’t wait to get started with Coach Jennings.”
“As we were looking for someone to become our graduate assistant coach one of the first things I look for was their eagerness to get into the coaching profession,” Prock said. “From the moment I visited with Rachael you could tell how anxious she was to get started. Having worked with her for the past month her work ethic is second to none. She embodies everything I look for in graduate assistant, we are so thankful that she has decided to join our family. We know she is going to do great things here at ENMU.”
ENMU basketball is nothing new to Jennings, who was a member of the Greyhound men’s basketball staff for two seasons. While with the men’s program, Jennings served as director of operations, academic liaison and facility liaison. He also oversaw planning for ENMU basketball camps, managed a student staff and assistant with compliance issues. Prior to serving in a coaching and teaching capacity at ENMU, Jennings was an intern in the athletic office at University of Nevada-Las Vegas and a basketball assistant at Durango High School.
“I am extremely excited and thankful to be part of the women’s basketball staff here at Eastern New Mexico University,” said Jennings. “Coach Prock has greatly improved the women’s basketball program and I am eager to learn from him. Leaving the men’s basketball staff and no longer working with Tres and Tyler was difficult, as these coaches have continuously shared and helped me expend my basketball knowledge. In the transition, Coach Prock and Rachael Eubank have both assisted in making my transition a smooth process. The residents of Portales and employees of ENMU also played a big part in my decision to accept the positon as this community is clearly behind ENMU athletics. I must also thank Stott Carter for opening the doors to my career at ENMU and our athletic director, Dr. Waggoner, for being a mentor this past year. I look forward to coaching these young ladies to be the best student-athletes they can be and giving the Portales community something to be proud of when it comes to ENMU athletics.”
Eubank is very familiar with LSC basketball after playing for Head Coach Sally Brooks for two seasons at Angelo State. Prior to Eastern, she served as an intern with the women’s basketball team at Tarleton State, where she assisted with practice and preparation.
“Truly, I am blessed and ecstatic to be a part of Eastern New Mexico University and the community of Portales,” Eubank said. “Since my arrival I have been overwhelmed with the love, support, and encouragement this University as well as members of the community have already shown me. I was fortunate enough to hold a student assistant position at Tarleton State University last year to put me in a position to keep up and watch the LSC Conference teams compete. Compete is exactly what the ENMU Women’s Basketball program did, despite a slow start to the year they made it back to the top. Coach Prock in his time with ENMU has done a tremendous job of turning the women’s basketball program into a successful program. I am honored to have the opportunity to step into this program and learn from Coach Prock and (Assistant Coach) Jennings. Without a doubt I know that both of these coaches will be incredible mentors for me. I want to thank all Eastern New Mexico University, faculty and staff that played a role in helping me into my graduate assistant position.”
