Boston College head women’s basketball coach Erik Johnson announced the addition of Latara King to the program as an assistant coach this afternoon. King replaces Marsha Frese, who resigned due to personal reasons.
King joins Boston College after two years at Monmouth as an assistant coach. Prior to that King was a graduate assistant at Florida State.
While at Monmouth, King served as recruiting coordinator, worked with the guards and was the director of the Monmouth Women’s Basketball Camps and Clinics. At Boston College, King will serve as recruiting coordinator and will play a prominent role in working with the Eagles perimeter players.
“Latara is one of the brightest young coaches in our business, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our staff. She brings us great energy and has a true gift in developing relationships with players, recruits, and recruiting contacts,” said head coach Erik Johnson. “Latara’s work ethic and organizational skills are excellent and her basketball acumen will bring us a host of new ideas and perspectives.”
In her first season with the Hawks, Monmouth won six of its final seven league games to finish tied for fourth in the MAAC. In the 2016-17 season, Monmouth went 15-16 overall and was 9-11 in conference.
As a graduate assistant for Florida State she was the manager coordinator, assisting the scout team in practices, helping with marketing and community service opportunities, assisting the video unit as well as a host of other objectives.
Prior to FSU, King was an assistant coach at Florida Memorial University. She handled recruiting, scheduling and the development of guards.
A native of Coral Springs, Florida, King was a three-year starter for Florida Memorial (2005-09) and served as a captain her junior and senior years. In the 2008-09 season, King guided the Lady Lions to their most successful season in eight years. Her senior year was highlighted by winning the Sun Conference and making an appearance at the Division II National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
King graduated from Florida Memorial University in the spring of 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She is also a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
