The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s women’s basketball program has named Sharay Hall its head coach, according to an announcement by Bret Butler, director of intercollegiate athletics.
“Sharay is a young, up-and-coming coach in the profession, and we are very blessed to have her,” Butler said. “She was a very good college player at Lock Haven, and has excellent experience as an assistant coach. I am excited to watch her coach and lead our team, and ultimately lead them to an AMCC title. It is great to have her aboard.”
Hall spent her collegiate career playing for Lock Haven, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2012 and later a master’s degree in sports and exercise psychology in 2014. She appeared in 102 games during her four years, scoring 873 points and grabbing 568 rebounds. During her senior year, she was an SCAC Second Team All-Conference Selection, and she is is third in all-time steals, sixth in all-time three-point field goals, eighth in all-time rebounding and ninth in all time blocked shots at Lock Haven. She also served as a student assistant coach from August 2012 until May 2013.
In September 2013, the Philadelphia native then served as a graduate assistant coach at Clarion University where she oversaw the team’s offseason conditioning, lifting and nutrition while also assisting with recruiting, planning practice and scouting.
After a year at Clarion, Hall earned her first assistant coaching role at Frostburg (Md.) State University, where she was an integral part of all coaching aspects from September 2014 until May 2016. In addition to making practice itineraries, game and workout plans, and recruiting, she edited video to assist with scouting and built up the academic support program. Under her watchful eye, her squad earned a 3.1 team GPA. In assisting with player development, she saw Ronje James (First Team) and Kirsten Rayner (Second Team) earn All-CAC honors.
In August 2016, she was named the assistant women’s basketball coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College of NCAA Division II. She was tasked with helping to build up the program. In her first year on the staff, the team earned a postseason berth. She also helped to develop Mari Stewart, an All- Conference Honorable Mention. Among her many roles, she served as the team’s academic advisor and helped bring the GPA up to 3.6.
“I’m so excited for the opportunity to represent the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s women’s basketball program,” Hall said. “I look forward to working with administration, staff, fellow coaches and student athletes. I want to thank President Livingston Alexander, Bret Butler and the search committee for giving me this amazing opportunity. I also would like to thank the head coaches that I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside for being great mentors during my tenure as assistant coach. I’m excited to meet the team, and can’t wait to get started.”
Hall replaces Sean Brown Jr., who guided the program to playoff appearances in his two years at the helm and took over to lead the men’s basketball program last month.
The Pitt-Bradford Panthers will begin their 2017-18 season competing in the Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament at Hall’s former place of employment, Frostburg State, for two games on Nov. 17 and 18. The Panthers will open up their home schedule on Nov. 29 as they welcome Hilbert.
