Central Washington University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Randi Richardson-Thornley has named Hillary Carlson as the team’s assistant coach for the 2017-18 season.
Richardson-Thornley and Carlson were teammates at the University of Wyoming from 2007-11 where they shared a 61-35 record on the court with a pair of National Invitational Tournament runs.
Carlson has spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Central High School in her hometown of Cheyenne, Wyo. where she helped lead the Indians to four state tournament appearances and two fourth-place finishes.
“Hillary is a very smart coach and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team,” Richardson-Thornley said. “She was a very talented player herself, and knows what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level. Her ability to teach the posts and my background as a guard will give us a good balance as a staff.”
Carlson was a three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection, earning first team honors as a senior where she averaged 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. She set the conference record for blocks in a game with 10 against Nevada as a junior.
Richardson-Thornley and Carlson will be joined by Stacey Lukasiewicz who will serve as the team’s graduate assistant for the next two years. Lukasiewicz graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 2017 after spending four years as a member of the Falcons women’s basketball team.
