Snead State Community College has named Destinie Smith as its head women’s basketball coach, Director of Athletics Mark Richard announced Monday.
“I am thrilled and honored to become the next head women’s basketball coach at Snead State,” said Smith, who spent two years playing semi-professional basketball after playing at the University of Georgia.
“I believe in the mission of this College and am excited to jump on board with this athletic department. I want to thank President Dr. Robert Exley and Athletic Director Mark Richard for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead this team.”
Smith spent the last year working in the Muscogee County School District. Prior to that, she served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
During her time at CVCC, the Pirates were the conference champions in 2015 and the runner-up in 2016.
She also served four years as a volunteer assistant coach at William H. Spencer High School.
Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness management from Troy State University in 2014 and attained a master’s in athletic administration from Troy State in 2016.
“We are very excited to have Coach Destinie Smith join our Parson family,” said Richard. “She is going to be a key asset in building champions on and off the court. I am particularly encouraged by the empowerment and motivational skills she will bring to women’s basketball.”
Smith takes the reigns from former head coach Jarrod Plummer, who resigned following the 2016-2017 season. Coach Plummer led the Lady Parsons to a 110-143 (26-66 conference) record over nine seasons, which included consecutive Alabama Community College Conference appearances the last three seasons.
