D’Youville College Names Laguerre New Assistant Coach

D’Youville women’s basketball head coach Danny Glover announced on Tuesday that former standout guard Danette Laguerre will remain a part of the program as an assistant coach.

Laguerre, a D’Youville student- athlete from 2012-2016 joins the Spartans staff while she completes her studies at the college.

“We’re thrilled that Danette will remain a part of our D’Youville family as she is continuing to further her education,” Glover said. “She was one of our players who laid the foundation for success with our program. She has always been an individual whom has earned the respect of everyone due to her personality, work ethic, and commitment to the program and her teammates. Being someone that has the respect of her peers, I believe she will be able to help our student-athletes develop not only as players but as people as well. Her familiarity with us as well as our philosophies and love for D’Youville made this a natural fit. We couldn’t be happier to have her join our staff.”

“As a former student-athlete for the program the last four years, I am thrilled to help the team in a new role. I am very excited about the opportunity provided and looking forward to helping contribute to the continued success of the D’Youville College women’s basketball program, as a part of the coaching staff.” Said Laguerre.

As a Spartan, Danette played in 88 career games, starting 53. She totaled 592 points, 298 rebounds, 170 steals and 132 assists. Those 170 steals are tops all-time in the women’s basketball program and her 132 assists are tenth.

In her her final season at D’Youville, Laguerre started all 27 games for D’Youville and was a team captain. She averaged 8.2 PPG, second on the team. Her 2.9 SPG and 2.2 APG were career highs. As a sophomore, she reached career highs with 9.5 PPG and 4.6 RPG.

A native of Buffalo, NY, Laguerre graduated from Hutch-Tech High School. She is pursuing her degree in Sociology.
